Trying to stop your mind from thinking?

Trying to stop your mind from thinking?

It's like trying to put out the sun with a garden hose.

It's not going to happen.

And the harder you try, squeezing that garden hose, saying things like: "Shut up mind, I want to sleep now"; the more frustrated you will get.

Do something counterintuitive.

Our brains like to do the opposite of what we want them to do.

So if telling it to shut up doesn't work, doing the exact opposite is worth considering.

Host a party for your thoughts instead.

Your job: To observe...are there many thoughts, what kinds, are they repetitive?

And if it's already a full house, jam packed with thoughts in your head...Invite and welcome more; saying things like: "Is that all you got brain, give me more thoughts."

Observe what happens. I bet the thinking subsides.

As with this entire practice, be patient and persistent. and you are bound to be successful.
