Stress…and how to deal with it.

Dealing with stress.

I'm currently undertaking a social experiment where I ask 1,000 people one question and then collate the findings and share the learnings at workplaces and at conferences.

By being on this list, you get a sneak peek of the initial responses.

How do you deal with stress?

Before reading what others say, it's a good question to ask yourself.

The sample size so far: 50 responses. Only 950 to go ;)

Here's what's being said:

  • Not very well or I don't

  • Exercise

  • Avoid and ignore it

  • Lean into it

  • Alcohol

  • Talking it out with others

  • Compartmentalise

  • Get used to it and keep moving

  • Change and do something fun (eg. a hobby)

  • Do the smallest possible thing to mitigate it

An insightful response

When you catch yourself stressing (noticing is what we train in practice), you can intercept and course correct...at any point in time.

Ask yourself these two questions:

  1. Is everything ok right now?

  2. If I didn't have this thought, what would life be like?

Is stress a choice?

Stress is a reaction to a situation you don't like.

And you may say that I don't know your boss, colleague, mother-in-law or your circumstance.

And you're right. I don't.

Yet, it doesn't matter because the same principals apply - you are reacting.

The good news.

You can train your mind to respond instead.

Imagine remaining composed while there's chaos around you.

It's a game changer.

It determines your experience...plus how much energy you have.

And this is all within your control...not external factors.

We are all a work in progress. And your progress, is more important than perfection.
