Thinking. Doing. Being.

When it comes to the practice of training attention (meditation), here is a sequence to consider:

The Thinking.

It starts with the idea, a thought or inspiration; that you can enhance the quality of your life.

Whether it's diminishing stress, improving sleep quality or training yourself to be awake to the life as it's happening. Whatever your intention, remember it. 

A key point to note is: You can do something about it. 

You can practice training your mind to notice when it wanders off into past rumination or future projection; and return it to now here...relaxed and alert.

The Doing.

When the talking starts the walking. This is where the work is done. 

It's an endless chasm of reps. The mind wanders and you return it to the intended sensory object.

It's not always sexy and at times, quite challenging. 

Yet, you are training the ability to concentrate and notice. 

Imagine noticing every time your jaw is clenched or your shoulders are tight or when you are reacting (versus responding) to circumstances. 

When you notice, only then can you intercept and course correct. 

It's so simple, yet not necessarily easy. It takes time and effort. It takes determination, discipline and grit. But it's worth it. Every time.

It is a mental gym. And just like the physical: 

The continuity of practices, is the secret to success.
Patiently and persistently, you are bound to be successful.

Perhaps you've heard me say this before ;) 

The Being.

This is where the magic happens. The moments where you're noticing the 'extra' in the ordinary. 

There's a sense of ease and spaciousness as you navigate life's ups and downs. You enter into flow states, there's more joy, you're more composed. 

Imagine that...life throws its curveballs (because it will), and you navigate them with composure. It's a game changer.

Yet only through experience does this manifest.
