Relax…it’s your brains job to think.

Training your attention + attitude (meditation) is an unraveling, revealing and useful thing to do.

Not only does it calm, focus and clear the mind (and that's plenty), it allows for precious 'me' time! No rush, no pressure, just time away from the people (and screens) to settle down.

To slow down and fine-tune your precious instrument - your mind.

To function more effectively, your brains need a break from the constant onslaught of information...and the over-thinking. Are you an over-thinker?

Relax...it's the brains job.

The brain's job is to think. And trying to stop it from thinking, like when wanting to fall asleep or waking up at 3am at night, never works.

If it does for you, please let me know ;-)

Some days there are loads of thoughts, even storms in the head. Obsessing over what someone said or did, or worrying about what's going to happen.

Other days, it's calm and quiet in the head.

Direct your attention elsewhere instead.

Rather than clamping down on thoughts and saying 'shut up mind', I want to sleep or meditate now, place the attention on something else eg. sensory.

Inevitably the mind will wander off. When you notice it has, celebrate that moment...as that's what you're training - your ability to notice.

And for beginners, this is frustrating. Yet for seasoned meditators, they take it in their stride...with a let's see how long it lasts approach.

One of acceptance of reality as it is, and of mental balance, equanimity. And this is the yardstick of your progress in meditation... How balanced you can remain in the ever present, timeless ups and downs of life!
