Look outside and dream. Look inside and awaken.
Look outside and dream.
We are at the precipice of information overload.
Perhaps the pendulum has already swung past this with overstimulation.
There's only so many reel's one can watch or doom scrolling one can do.
Whilst it is relaxing (compared to rushing around at work), it keeps the brain flooded with stimulus.
And most times, at the end of a scroll, it feels draining.
By the way, I too am guilty :)
Yet as you train your awareness for application during your day to day, it's much easier to catch yourself. You become more aware.
And only then can you intercept the brain exertion.
Obstacles.
One of the hardest obstacles for beginners to overcome, is the ability to sit in discomfort.
The expectations are often high.
'I'm meditating...my brain is supposed to be calm, quiet and clear...and right now, it's jumping from thought to thought. This doesn't work. It's not for me. I can't shut my mind up from thinking."
Rather than clamping down on thinking or distractions (because that never works), have more interest in what you want to focus on eg. your breath.
It's the most important thing you do.
It tells you your state...at any point in time.
Listen to what it's communicating to you. Plus it helps you to stay connected to where your body is.
Here and now.
Look inside and awaken.
Once you cultivate the conditions to allow your thinking to subside and your entire system to settle, you begin to glance into your inner world.
And it's tantalisingly interesting in there.
Way more entertaining than Netfix or Insta could ever be!
And you walk away feeling better. More composed, settled. Ready to better accomplish the tasks ahead.
